Choengyi Dolma

Facade is a self-portrait told through the room I live in rather than through my physical appearance. Over time, I carefully shaped this room into a place where I wanted to stay. I believed that if I could make the space feel right, I might also find a way to settle myself within it.

The room feels personal and familiar, but it also acts as a façade. Behind its carefully arranged surface are parts of myself that I am only beginning to recognize: fear, insecurity, the need for validation, people-pleasing, pretence, and other contradictions that I do not yet fully understand. Rather than showing these feelings directly, I let them exist quietly within the room and in the space around it.

Leaving this room for two weeks and returning to it made me realize that it is more than a place of comfort. It is where I confront the distance between the person I present to the world, the person I think I am, and the person I am still discovering. Through embroidery, an ordinary room becomes a psychological space where care, concealment, and self-examination coexist.
