Tenzing Gyurmey

Tenzin Gyurmey (b. 1987, Kamrao village, Himachal) explores the paradoxes present in ordinary things from his life. He focuses on the concepts and associations simple objects can carry. By exploring a theme with different mediums of expressions, he tries to gain new insights about an object that was previously mundane. His subjects are often people who are close to him; family, friends and even neighbors. He often paints on tarp sacks (called Drochak bureh in Tibetan) as a homage to his childhood memory of them. Basic food supplies were given by US Aid to Tibetan refugees in tarp sacks and they were used in Tibetan households for various purposes for a long time.

His interest in drawing and painting started from a young age, further solidified by training in Thangka painting under his father Tulku Troegyal from the age of 6.His studio practice is currently based in Himachal.
