Echoes from the Land of Memories

“Echoes from the land of memories” delve into the recollections of my ancestral home in
Okhaldhunga. Each visit to the place awakens a flood of memories, both my own and those
passed down by my grandmother and relatives who still reside in the village. As I recall
forgotten memories, many fading recollections are brought back to me as I wander through the
landscape of my home.
While I hold dear to the nostalgic memories of the past, I am also confronted with the
ever evolving nature of the homescape I once knew so well. I find myself straddling the fine line
between past and present, memory and reality. I feel as time has carved out lines of memories
that once existed which even though invisible completes memories that are visible. Despite the
empty house and neglected fields, my work brings life into the forgotten corners of my home,
capturing its essence.
This bittersweet nostalgia of returning home is what fuels my works, compelling me to
create, remember, and honor the place that grounds me. These emotions find comfort in the
intricate process of woodcut printmaking, where I carve into the wooden surface to reflect the
layers of memories, some vividly apparent, while others linger beneath the surface, echoing the
essence of home.
