Witnesses of Inner Worlds
Exhibited Artists
Takpa Gallery is proud to present ‘Witnesses of Inner Worlds’, a solo exhibition of paintings and sculpture by Min Thapa. The show brings together 21 works rendered in neo-impressionist pointillism style, visualized in dots and strokes of yellows, pinks, purples and blues.
Min explores the idea of parent-child dynamic, thoughtfully embracing the affection and sacrifice embedded within this relationship. The artist, drawing from his own experiences growing up, observes silent struggles of parents who face many hurdles to provide a better future for their children. Their hardships are internalized, and to their children they present possibilities to dream beyond their immediate realities. In Min’s paintings, parents wish to fashion their children as superheroes- the explorers of worlds unreachable to parents. To the children, the world is secure, vibrant and joyous. Yet, images of childhood bliss and familial love are contrasted with reminders of daily needs and scarcities around them. Food symbolizes the pressures of earning daily bread while joyful motifs of sunflowers, books and checkerboards hint at the desire for artistic and intellectual pursuits. Colorful flowers bloom amidst figures burdened by the weight of daily food. Figures in the paintings oscillate between carefree embrace of their hopes and dreams, and their struggles with grim realities of everyday life.
Min chooses to dignify the unexpressed resilience of familial love through his celebration of everyday joys and aspirations. The works transform stories of hardship into portraits of affection and fortitude. They are witnesses to inner worlds of people who expand the horizons of those who come after them.
